The US traffic safety authority NHTSA is investigating possible brake problems in more than one million vehicles from the sphere of General Motors and Honda. Models from the Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC as well as Acura and Honda brands are named. The focus is on the suspicion that a defect in the braking system could impair deceleration performance and thus increase the risk of an accident.
The classification is important: an NHTSA investigation is not yet a recall. It does not automatically mean that every affected vehicle has a defect or that a repair campaign has already been ordered. The authority first collects data, reviews complaints, requests technical information from manufacturers and assesses whether a safety-related problem exists with sufficient frequency or severity.
