Lancia Gamma unveiled as midsize SUV
The Lancia Gamma has been unveiled as a midsize SUV based on STLA Medium. The range includes a 145 PS hybrid and three electric versions with up to 741 km WLTP range.
Lancia has unveiled the Gamma at the Paris Motor Show as a new SUV for the midsize segment. After the previously sole Ypsilon, the manufacturer is doubling its model range; the first Gamma appeared in 1976. The new five-door model uses the STLA Medium platform with 400-volt architecture and is 4.67 meters long, 1.89 meters wide and 1.66 meters high. The fastback body is said to achieve a class-best drag coefficient of 0.25. Also mentioned are T-shaped LED taillights, slim LED strips with vertical elements at the front, a split rear spoiler, aero wheels and an active front grille. Under the tailgate of the five-seater, there is up to 560 liters of luggage space.
The powertrain lineup starts with the Hybrid 145, which combines a 1.2-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric motor in the six-speed dual-clutch transmission and produces 145 PS and 230 Nm. Three electric versions with NMC batteries are added: a front-wheel-drive model with 169 kW (230 PS), 343 Nm, boost function up to 260 PS, a 73.7-kWh battery and 543 kilometers of WLTP range; a stronger front-wheel-drive variant with 180 kW (245 PS), boost up to 206 kW, 343 Nm, a 97.2-kWh battery and up to 741 kilometers; and the HF Integrale with two motors, all-wheel drive, 257 kW (350 PS), boost up to 276 kW (375 PS), 509 Nm, a 97.2-kWh battery and up to 676 kilometers of range. Charging is via onboard chargers with 7.4 kW, 11 kW or 22 kW as well as by fast charger at up to 160 kW; in the best case, the state of charge is said to rise from 10 to 80 percent in 32 minutes. The 1.6-tonne hybrid reaches a maximum of 201 km/h and sprints in 10.4 seconds, while the 2.1- to 2.3-tonne electric models are limited to 190 km/h and record sprint times of 5.1 to 7.8 seconds depending on the version. Towing capacity is a maximum of 650 kilograms for the hybrid and 760 kilograms for the electric versions. In the cockpit, a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, a 16-inch touchscreen, a 21-inch head-up display, microfiber surfaces, voice control, ChatGPT integration and a Focal audio system are planned; assistance functions up to Level 2 include partially automated lane changing, predictive adaptive cruise control and predictive speed adjustment. The Gamma will be built at the Italian plant in Melfi in LS, LX and HF trims. Which markets will be served first remains open; prices have not yet been stated.
