Ford is recalling 96,840 Mustang Mach-E vehicles worldwide. According to Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority, a faulty differential in the electric SUV can lead to a loss of drive or unintended vehicle movement. In Germany, 6,598 vehicles are affected.
Pinion shaft in the rear differential can break
Ford’s recall portal indicates that the pinion shaft of the rear-axle differential can break. If that happens, the vehicle can lose drive. In addition, the Mustang Mach-E can move unintentionally when park position “P” is selected if the parking brake is not applied. Both situations increase the risk of an accident.
Vehicles built from March 2020 to December 2023 are affected. No property damage or personal injury related to this differential issue is known so far.
Remedy not yet available
According to Ford’s recall portal, a completed repair measure is not currently available. Replacement of the rear differential is apparently planned; however, the necessary parts are still missing and are expected to be available from the fourth quarter of 2026.
