BMW Concept 7 Protection: Armored 7 Series with a lower protection level
BMW is showing the Concept 7 Protection, a special-protection sedan based on the M760e xDrive. It protects against selected handgun ammunition but sits below the high-security models.
BMW is showing the Concept 7 Protection, a new armored luxury sedan for customers who need protection but not the brand’s highest security level. The concept vehicle sits below the more heavily protected BMW X5 Protection VR6 and BMW 7 Series Protection models. The target group is private customers, companies and organizations whose risk profile mainly calls for protection against selected handgun ammunition. Its appearance is intended to remain as close as possible to the regular 7 Series.
Protection against handguns rather than high-security level
The technical basis is the BMW M760e xDrive with hybrid all-wheel drive, 612 hp and 800 Nm. BMW integrates the protective equipment discreetly into the body. This includes safety glazing that is significantly thicker than on the comparable production vehicle, as well as precisely fitted elements made of ballistic steels and fiber-composite materials in the doors. The transitions between doors, glass areas and bodywork are also included in the protection concept. The rear quarter windows are additionally armored behind the glass and concealed on the inside.
The Concept 7 Protection meets the new BayB standard and is designed for 9 × 19 millimeter and .44 Magnum ammunition. According to the report, protection against explosive charges is offered only by the high-security models. In the roof area, an additional protective layer made of steel and fiber-composite materials sits beneath the standard panoramic glass roof; the glass roof remains visible from the outside, but the blind stays permanently closed. The front and rear bulkheads are also part of the ballistic protection. For everyday use on board, BMW lists an intercom system for communication with people outside the vehicle and a robbery alarm system with visual and acoustic warning signals. The front and rear side windows remain electrically operated, but open only to a reduced extent. Chassis, brakes, drivetrain and driver assistance systems are tuned to the added weight and protective technology.
Luxury equipment remains
Inside, the Concept 7 Protection is intended to retain the character of a luxury sedan. The reported equipment includes leather-Alcantara trim and a rear compartment with a first-time fold-out console, refrigerator compartment, table and tray for wireless charging. In the regular BMW 7 Series, this rear console is not due to become available until the course of the second half of 2027.
