Alfa Romeo Cuorerosso shows future design strategy

The Cuorerosso concept is not planned for production, but it is meant to preview Alfa’s next design and control philosophy – with fewer large displays and several powertrain options.

Alfa Romeo is not planning a production version of the Cuorerosso, but is using the concept as a guide for the next model generation. Under the term “Bellezza Necessaria,” the show car is intended to show how the brand understands form, controls and powertrains for the future. The design team began with a 3D basic shape without wheels, glazing or add-on parts; only then were classic Alfa elements such as the Scudetto grille and the cut-off rear, the Coda Tronca, added. The drag coefficient is 0.28, placing it more in a practical range than at record level.

Interior with less screen dominance

In the cockpit, Alfa Romeo positions itself against the trend toward very large displays. Brand chief Santo Ficili rejects “home cinema displays” and instead focuses on less distraction and more analogue controls with haptic feedback. In the Cuorerosso, the “Magma Display” combines a digital touch surface with rotary controls, toggle switches and a drive mode selector; “Quadrifoglio” is also planned there as a mode. The “Cannocchiale Vivente” instrument system uses two round displays: in “Concentrato” mode, they can be mechanically merged into one unit, while in “Immersivo” mode they appear separately. The amount of information shown is to be deliberately reduced.

Multi-energy instead of one fixed powertrain solution

For the powertrain, Alfa Romeo is not communicating a finished production layout, but a multi-energy strategy. Battery-electric drives, plug-in hybrid, mild hybrid and full hybrid are mentioned so that different markets and vehicle segments can be covered. As a possible top solution, the brand names a 2.9-liter V6 as a full hybrid with Q4 all-wheel drive, a torque-converter automatic transmission and a carbon driveshaft. There are no figures for output, battery size, electric range or performance. Ficili presents electrification as a means of supporting sportiness in line with the Alfa Romeo philosophy.

Production roadmap from 2027

For the existing models, Alfa Romeo gives a concrete horizon: Giulia and Stelvio are to continue until 2027, including the Quadrifoglio versions. After that, a new C-SUV is planned for 2027; later, a hatchback model in the C-segment is to follow, with a character linked to the 147 and Giulietta. The Cuorerosso is not a direct blueprint for body shapes. Ficili points out that coupé proportions can only be transferred to SUVs to a limited extent and that a compact model would be significantly shorter than the 4.70-meter-long concept. In addition, through Bottegafuoriserie, Alfa Romeo is planning a new “Hero-Car” as a limited-run sports car that is explicitly not intended to be a successor to the Cuorerosso.
