Tesla leads Europe’s EV ranking in September
The Model Y and Model 3 take the top two places for EV registrations in 15 European markets in September 2026.
Tesla took the first two places in the ranking of EV registrations in 15 European markets in September 2026. According to an EY analysis, the Tesla Model Y reached 39,141 new registrations, while the Tesla Model 3 reached 22,805. The gap to the third-placed Škoda Elroq was clear: the Czech model recorded 10,845 registrations. At the same time, the overall EU new-car market grew: according to ACEA, 971,048 passenger cars were newly registered in the EU in September, 9.3 percent more than a year earlier. Battery-electric cars accounted for 290,117 units there, an increase of 72.9 percent, and reached a market share of 29.9 percent.
The top 10 EV registrations
- Tesla Model Y: 39,141 new registrations
- Tesla Model 3: 22,805 new registrations
- Škoda Elroq: 10,845 new registrations
- Škoda Enyaq: 8,691 new registrations
- Renault 5: 7,672 new registrations
- Renault Twingo: 7,393 new registrations
- VW ID.4 and VW ID.5: 6,533 new registrations
- Kia EV3: 6,499 new registrations
- Kia EV2: 5,972 new registrations
- Volvo EX30: 5,910 new registrations
Alongside Tesla’s top-two result, Škoda’s strong showing stands out: the Elroq and Enyaq follow directly behind the Model Y and Model 3. Renault is also ahead of Volkswagen with the 5 and the Twingo. The VW ID.4 and VW ID.5 are listed together in the EY ranking and jointly reach seventh place. The Škoda Elroq alone is 4,312 vehicles ahead of this combined VW duo; together, the ID.4 and ID.5 are 32,608 new registrations behind the Tesla Model Y. The joint counting of the ID.4 and ID.5 is important for context, but it does not change the large gap to the top.
The top 10 include three entries from German car groups, two of them from VW subsidiary Škoda. Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz do not appear among the first ten models in this September analysis. The different scope of the data should also be noted: ACEA’s figures for market volume, BEV share and growth refer to the EU, while EY’s model ranking covers 15 European markets: Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Italy, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain and the Czech Republic.
