EV subsidies expected to last into 2027
German Environment Minister Carsten Schneider says the €3 billion for the EV subsidy program should be sufficient into 2027 despite strong demand.
German Environment Minister Carsten Schneider expects the funds for the EV subsidy program to be sufficient with a view to 2027 as well. The program is funded with €3 billion. Buyers who now decide on a battery-electric vehicle and meet the subsidy requirements should not, according to Schneider, have to worry that the funds will no longer be available next year.
Schneider said the subsidy program is exceeding the German government’s expectations. Demand for electric mobility is dynamic, which is why developments are being monitored closely. He did not give specific details on when the €3 billion might be expected to be used up.
If it becomes clear when the available funds will be exhausted, the ministry intends, according to Schneider, to provide early information. For prospective buyers, the key issue therefore remains whether their planned vehicle and purchase meet the applicable subsidy conditions.
